What types of audio files can be imported into Réécoute?

Long answer

Digitally representing an audio signal (a sound wave, basically!) so that a computer can use it isn’t always simple, which is why there is a dizzying number of audio file formats. Fortunately, nowadays only a small number of them are still commonly used, but there will always be a few on the market because some people have specific needs, and innovation means new ones pop up from time to time.

Réécoute works with the most common audio formats, including:

• WAV (i.e., Waveform Audio File Format) PCM, meaning uncompressed.
• MP3 (i.e., MPEG-1 Audio Layer III)
• M4A/AAC, i.e., MPEG-4 Audio using the AAC codec

This list is not exhaustive; many other formats can be imported as well.

Réécoute works with the most common sample rates: 44.100 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.200 kHz, and 96 kHz. It is not possible to join files with different sample rates, but you shouldn't need to do that anyway.

Réécoute only works with mono or stereo files.
